Die Exposition als Katastrophe in Büchners Drama Dantons Tod
Abstract
The Exposition as catastrophe in Büchner's Drama Danton's Death
Drawing on the example of the drama Dantons Tod (Danton's Death) allows to illustrate the change from the interpersonal to the atmospheric and monological on the one hand and the transition in the intellectual and spiritual situation in the first
part of the 19th century on the other hand. The reason for narrowing the research on the exposition of Büchner's drama is due to the fact that in the exposition the intention of a drama finds its most explicit expression thus making the exposition the hardest part of work for an author. In a letter dating from 21st October 1800 Schiller wrote to Körner: “The expositions are a real head scratcher for me until I
finally manage to saddle up”.
