A cross-cultural comparasion of wedding invitations in Turkish and German
In the framework of text linguistics, various types of texts such as newspaper articles, advertisements, weather reports, reviews, wedding announcements and science texts are considered intra- and intercultural. Wedding invitations, however, are rarely the subject of linguistic studies. The aim of this study is to determine the specific characteristics of text type of wedding invitations in German and Turkish with structural-functional linguistic criteria and to describe the common and different features of this text type. Since this type of text boasts cultural differences, a cross-cultural comparison of the analyzed texts is carried out in both languages. The objects of investigation are 25 German and Turkish wedding invitations from the period 2005-2009.
