Romantic traces with new functions in Florian Weber’s Grimms Erben
The article focusses on Florian Weber’s reception of romantic poetics and traces the new functions they assume in his text. The clou hereby is that Weber’s characters use romantic mechanisms and forms precisely to overcome the failure of romantic utopia. By subjecting their lives to a fairy-tale-logic the characters compensate the lack of sense, unity, and relation(ships) in postmodernism. With its reception of
traditional forms, which is no longer due to postmodern playfulness, but presents an attempt to reach for new (although fictional) certainty, Weber’s novel can also be
seen as paradigmatic for the new discussion about post-postmodernism.
