Art-Sanat Thematic Issue: The Seljuks

Art-Sanat Journal, with the e-ISSN 2148-3582 and published by the Istanbul University Research Institute of Turkology, is an international peer-reviewed electronic journal which is issued biannually (January and July).

The purpose of Art-Sanat Journal is to support, publish and enhance the artistic genres, works of art, art history, archeological data and other scholarly works related to fields of art starting with our region and extending to Turkish-affiliated territories including the Turks and related communities. The journal features academic research articles in the fields of Archeology, Art History, The History of Architecture, Restoration-Conservation, Museology, Fine Arts and Performance Arts pertinent with Turks and kindred societies.

The July 2024 issue of the journal (Issue 22) is planned to be published as a thematic edition featuring articles which will examine the culture and art of The Seljuks, who left a powerful impact across a vast region.

Seljuk Art has acquired great significance in the field of Turkish Art History with the artworks of The Seljuks, who had descended from the Turkish tribes which were located in the Central Asia and transformed into an immense empire during the times when they had dominated Iran, Mesopotamia, Syria and Anatolia. In this special issue of Art-Sanat, the aim will be to thoroughly examine the Seljuk architecture and Art from every perspective. Articles about the following topics will be considered for evaluation:

Some Standards Regarding Article Submission

The language of the article: Turkish, English (monolingual) and Turkish-English (bilingual) articles will be accepted.

Abstract:
For articles in Turkish: A Turkish and English abstract of 150-200 words each and an extended summary of 1500-2000 words in English about the entire article must be included.
For articles in English: A Turkish and English abstract of 150-200 words each and an extended summary of 1500-2000 words in Turkish about the entire article must be included.
For bilingual articles: A Turkish and English abstract of 150-200 words each must be included.

The article organization: The articles must be organized starting with an Introduction, continuing with numbered subheadings, and ending with Conclusion (Conclusion and Evaluation are separate sections) and Bibliography; visuals must be placed conveniently between the paragraphs (G.1).

Permission and copyright: If the article is based on an excavation, the excavation director, the excavation team, the institutions which support the excavation and the project code or the official permit date and number must be indicated in the footnote. In case the author(s) would be different from the excavation director, the permit from the director for conducting the study must be uploaded to the article submission system and must be indicated in the footnote.
If the article is about some artifacts exhibited in a museum, the date and number of the official permit obtained from the relevant museum directory for conducting the study must be indicated in the footnote. In addition, the permits of use of the visuals (i.e. miniatures, photographs) in a publication which are gathered from institutions such as archives, museums, etc. must be uploaded to the article submission system.

Permit must be obtained from relevant public institutions for studies involving any historical ruins such as archeological sites and must be uploaded to the article submission system.

Ethical standards: As of 2020, for studies prepared using techniques such as surveys, interviews, discussions, focus group studies, observations, experiments etc. an Ethics Committee Approval Certificate must be included in the article submissions.

If the article is derived from a master’s or a doctorate thesis, it must be indicated with * footnote and the information about the thesis author, the title, the university, the institute, the department in which it was conducted and the advisor’s name must be written in the footnote.

Support: If the article is supported and financed by any project including BAP (Scientific Research Projects), Financial Support section must follow the conclusion, stating the type and the code of the project, and acknowledgement of financial support.
