Özet
Sivas XIX. yüzyılın sonunda Amerikan misyonerleri için bir cazibe merkezi olmuştur. Özellikle Ermeni nüfus üzerinde faaliyet gösteren Amerikalı misyonerler Sivas'ta Gayri Müslim Ermenileri Protestanlaştırmak ve Hıristiyanlığın ilkelerini yaymak için eğitim faaliyetlerinde bulunmuşlardır. Sivas'ta 1880 yılında eğitim faaliyetlerine başlayan misyonerler, bölgedeki kızları ve erkekleri eğitmişlerdir. Sivas'ta Amerikan misyonerlerinin eğitimdeki genel amacı öğretmen olarak çalışacak bireyler yetiştirmektir. Bu gaye için 1912 yılında Sivas Öğretmen Koleji kurulmuştur. Öğretmen okulunun eğitim hayatı yaşanan savaşlar nedeniyle kısa sürmüştür. I. Cihan Harbinin başlaması ve Ermeni tehciri gibi nedenlerle okul 1915 yılında kapatılmıştır. Bu Araştırma Amerikan Arşiv belgeleri aracılığıyla Sivas Öğretmen Koleji'nin tarihi gelişimi hakkında kısa bilgi vermeyi amaçlamaktadır.
Sivas Teachers College
Abstract
Sivas became a centre of attraction for American missionaries at the end of the 19th century. The American missionaries who aimed at non-Muslim Armenian population tried to convert these non-Muslim Armenians into Protestants and spread the principles of Christianity. the missionaries who started to work in Sivas in 1880 educated girls and boys in the region. The general aim of these American missionaries in education is to educate individuals who would work as teachers. To this end Sivas Teacher College was founded in 1912. The education life of this school was too short to the wars that were experienced in the world. This school was closed due to the outbreak of World War I and Armenian deportation. This article aims to give short information about the historical development of Sivas Teacher College upon investigation of the documents obtained from the American archives.
