Abstract

Osmanlı ta ihç liğinin deneyimli ismi Pal Fodor, Osmanlı siyasi, askeri ve entelektüel tarihinine dair llarca riktird ği muktesebatını bir kez daha Osmanlı tarih meraklılarına sunuyor. tabın içindekiler smına alelacele bakan dikkatsiz bir okuyucu, ilk anda yazarın eski çal şmalarından derlediği bir siyasi tarih kitabıyla baş başa olduğu intibaına kapılabi ir. Bu, ancak kısmen doğrudur. Pal Fodor, kronolojik sıraya dayanan bir Osmanlı siyasi ve askeri hadiseleri tarihi anlattığının zaten farkındadır; okuyucudan muhtemel tekdüzelik için peşin peşin özür diler (s. 22). Gerçekten de, yazarın hoşuna gitmeyecek bir anımlamayla, erken modern Osmanlı tarihi uzmanları ara ında artık sır olmayan tarihi vaka ve gelişmeler, yazarın titiz üslubuyla bir kere daha baştan anlatılmaktadır.
