PANKREAS ADENOKARSİNOMLU HASTALARDA SERUM TRANSFORME EDİCİ BÜYÜME FAKTÖR BETA 1 (TGF-Β1) DÜZEYLERİ

Abstract

Amaç: Transforme edici büyüme faktör beta 1 (TGF-β1) birçok tümör tipinde regülatör bir sitokindir. Bu çalışmada, pankreas adenokarsinomlu (PA) hastalarda serum TGF-β1 düzeylerinin klinik önemininin belirlenmesi amaçlanmıştır.
Gereç ve Yöntem: Çalışmamıza histopatolojik olarak tanısı doğrulanmış 33 PA’lı hasta ile yaş-cinsiyet olarak eşleştirilmiş 30 sağlıklı kontrol alındı. Serum TGF-β1 düzeyleri, ELISA yöntemiyle belirlendi.
Bulgular: Ortanca teşhis yaşı 59 (aralık, 32-84) idi. Hastaların %61'i erkek, %70’inin performans durumu iyi ve %68’inde tümör lokalizasyonu pankreas başı bölgesindeydi. Cerrahi uygulanan 9 (%27) hastanın; 5 (%15)’ine pankreatikoduodenektomi operasyonu, 4 (%12)’üne ise palyatif cerrahi uygulandı. Serum TGF-β1düzeyleri, hasta grubunda kontrol grubuna göre anlamlı olarak yüksek bulundu (p<0.001). Serum TGF-β1 düzeyleri ile yaş, cinsiyet, performans durumu, tümör lokalizasyonu, tümör büyüklüğü, metastaz varlığı, kemoterapi cevabı ve laboratuvar parametrelerini de içeren klinikopatolojik parametreler arasında anlamlı bir korelasyon saptanmadı (p>0.05). Yüksek serum TGF-β1 düzeyleri, iyi prognozu predikte edebilir ancak istatistiksel anlamlılık bulunmamıştır (p=0.09).
Sonuçlar: Serum TGF-β1, PA’lı hastalarda tanısal biyobelirteçtir. Fakat, prediktif ve prognostik değeri mevcut değildir.

SERUM TRANSFORMİNG GROWTH FACTOR BETA 1 (TGF-Β1) LEVELS IN PANCREATIC ADENOCARCINOMA PATIENTS

Abstract

Objective: The transforming growth factor beta 1 (TGF-β1) is a regulatory
cytokine
in many tumors. In this
study, we aimed to determine the clinical significance of serum
TGF-
β1
levels in patients with pancreatic adenocarcinoma (PA).

Materials and Methods: Thirty-three
patients with a histopathologically confirmed PA diagnosis and sex- and
age-matched 30 healthy controls were included into the current study. Serum
TGF-β1 levels were measured using the ELISA method.

Results: Median age was
59 (range, 32-84). Of the patients, 61% were male, 70% had good performance
status, and 68% had tumors localized at the head of the pancreas.
Pancreaticoduodenectomy and palliative surgery were performed in 5 (15%) and 4
(12%) of the 9 (27%) patients who underwent surgical procedure. Serum
TGF-β1 levels were found to be significantly higher in
patients compared with the control group (p<0.001). A significant
correlation between serum
TGF-β1 levels and
clinico-pathological parameters including age, gender, performance status,
tumor locatization, tumor size, metastasis, chemotherapy response, and
laboratory parameters was not detected (p>0.05).
High

TGF-β1 levels seems to predict better survival
(p=0.09)

although it was not found significant.

Conclusions:
Serum TGF-β1
level is a diagnostic biomarker for patients with PA. However, it has neither
predictive nor prognostic value in this group of patients.
