PRELIMIlNARY ETHNOBOTANICAL STUDY FROM KAZ DAGI (BALIKESİR/ÇANAKKALE) I: USES AND VERNACULAR NAMES

Abstract

In this study, a preliminary ethnobotanical studjl is made from Kaz Dagi-and its around. The vernacular names of 57 taxa and medicinal uses of 38 taxa have been provided. Additionally, usage of 10 taxa as herbal tea, 6 taxa as food and 3 taxa as dye have been reported.The literature on the ethnobotany has increased in recent years. However ethnobotanical uses are documented for only about 28% of plant on the World. An important, perhaps the most important recompense should be the preservation of local plant knowledge. Because plants are the basis of all material cultures, preservation of ethnobotanical knowledge, like the preservation of language, is a requisite for safekeeping of cultures. This type studies in Turkey where has rich flora (5) and difference cultures is the necessary.
