An Examination of Psychometric Properties of Con ict Resolution Styles Inventory in an Adolescent Sample
Abstract
The present study examined the validity and reliability of the Conflict Resolution Styles Inventory (CRSI), developed by Kurdek (1994), in an adolescent sample between ages 11 and 19. For this examination the dataset of a project aiming to examine the antecedents and consequences of adolescents’ disclosure and secrecy behaviors in their relationships with parents was used (TÜBİTAK project no 115K324). The sample of the dataset con- sists of adolescents from eight secondary schools from different districts of Istanbul, and a small number of adolescents (N = 166) recruited via convenience sampling (Total N = 1357). Students filled out a battery of questionnaires in a class time; the adolescents from convenience sample filled out the questionnaires during their available time. Participants filled out the Conflict Resolution Styles Inventory for their relationships with their mother, father, and their best friend. Exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses indicated that the inventory has the same structure as the original one in the present adolescent sample, and can be used with Turkish adolescents. Cronbach’s alpha coefficients for problem solving, conflict engagement, withdrawal, and compliance factors for the mother, the father and the close friend forms, ranged between .81-.86, .73-.74, .62-.64 ve .54-.56, respectively.
