Abstract
Modern Western concept of science is based on a progress model. The belief of progress which determines its description in sociological theory, manifests a perspective of social change for all societies as an essential process. Nowadays, the critics against modern social theory are in evidence. A social progress and a historical concept depending on production/economics/industry/science has fallen into disrepute. Instead, the view of “return to the sacred”, which refuses social development, and absolutizes the distinctions in the existing social order, has become prominent. This study discusses this change of attitude in West.
Abstract
Modern Batılı bilim anlayışı bir ilerleme modeli üzerine kuruludur. Sosyolojik teoride de anlatımını bulan ilerleme inancı, bütün toplumlar için zorunlu bir süreç olarak bir toplumsal değişme perspektifini ortaya koyar. Günümüzde ise modern toplumsal teoriye yönelik eleştiriler göze çarpmaktadır. Üretime/iktisada/endüstriye/bilime dayalı toplumsal ilerleme ve tarih anlayışı gözden düşmüştür. Bunun yerine, toplumsal ilerlemeyi reddeden, mevcut toplumsal düzen içinde farklılıkları mutlaklaştıran “kutsala dönüş” görüşü öne çıkmıştır. Bu çalışma, Batı'daki bu tavır değişikliğini ele almaktadır.
