Kullanımlar ve Doyumlar Kuramı Açısından Bir Yaygın Eğitim Aracı Olarak Sosyal Medya: Eğitimcilere Öneriler

Abstract

Yeni medyanın
çıkışından önce geliştirilmiş olan kullanımlar ve doyumlar kuramı, önceki
yaklaşımların tersine, iletişimin niteliğini anlamak ve açıklamak için,
medyanın ve/ya da metnin özelliklerine odaklanmak yerine, bir yandan kullanıcının
kullanım türlerine ve biçimlerine; bir yandan da, medyayı kullanarak almayı
arzuladığı ve gerçekten aldığı doyumlara odaklanarak, sosyal medya çalışmaları
için oldukça kullanışlı bir çerçeve çizmiş oluyor. Dünyada sosyal medyanın kullanımı,
hızla yaygınlaşırken, sosyal medya çalışmaları da sayıca artıyor ve önem
kazanıyor. Bu çalışmalar artarken, kullanımlar ve doyumlar kuramı, en çok
kullanılan yaklaşımlardan biri oluyor. Bu kuram (kimi araştırmacılara göre,
‘yaklaşım’), medya özellikleri odaklı çerçevelerin tersine, kullanıcı nüfustaki
değişik kesimleri ayrıca incelememize izin verdiği için de, kapsayıcı
bulunuyor. İşte bu kullanıcılar içinde, belki de sosyal medyanın öncüsü
sayabileceğimiz öğrenciler ve eğitimciler, özel olarak incelenmeyi hak
ediyorlar. Bu çalışmada, yöntemsel gerekçelerle, bu kesimin sosyal medyayı
yalnızca eğitim amaçlı kullanımına yer verilmektedir. Ancak, bu yapılırken, hiç
bir sosyal medyanın yalnızca tek bir kullanım amacına sahip olmadığı da
özellikle vurgulanmaktadır.



Sosyal medya,
etkileşimli bir niteliğe sahip olmasıyla, daha önceki medyalardan
ayrılmaktadır. Çeşitli araştırmacıların ‘Web 2.0’ ya da ‘sosyal medya
teknolojileri’ olarak adlandırdığı teknolojiler şöyledir: Sosyal imleçleme, Wikiler,
ortak belge yaratımı, bloglar, mikrobloglar, sunum araçları, imge yaratımı ve
düzenleme, ses kaydı paylaşımı, video düzenleme ve paylaşımı, ekran kaydı,
zihin haritalama, sayısal öyküleme vb. Bunların etkileşim düzeyi ve bu düzeyle
bağlantılı olarak karşıladıkları gereksinimler ve böylece sağladıkları
doyumlar, farklı farklıdır. Dolayısıyla, bu çalışmada, bu teknolojiler,
özelliklerine göre sınıflandırılmakta ve bu sınıflandırma üzerinden, eğitimcilere
çeşitli önerilerde bulunulmaktadır.
