Conceptions of Decent Work as Predictors of Teachers' Positive Identity Perceptions – The Case of Elazığ Province

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effects of teachers' perceptions of decent work on their positive identity perceptions. The study was conducted on teachers working in public schools in Elazığ province and was performed using a predictive correlational model. The findings show that there are significant positive relationships between teachers' positive identity perceptions and physically and relationally safe working conditions, access to health services, and congruence of institutional values with family and social values. However, no significant relationship was found between adequate pay, leisure and recreation, and positive identity perceptions. The results of standard regression analysis show that physically and relationally safe working conditions, access to health services, and congruence of institutional values with family and social values significantly predict positive identity perceptions. This research can make significant contributions to the development of educational policies and support teachers' professional development. Improving teachers' working conditions is a key element in achieving sustainable success in education systems.
