Abstract
Nationalism should not be evaluated as a political theory or an ideological goal as it is perceived in our age. Because the concept of nationalism is used in the sense of ideological unification due to the global developments. However, identifying a specific role to the concept of nationalism does not grant a complete understanding to this concept. We may properly understand the impact and dimensions of nationalism when we consider it as sympathy or cultural unity that leads to socialization. This type of evaluation will give nationalism an integrative function. In this context, the phenomenon of nationalism, which has a great importance in the formation of societies can be defined as a social memory product that provides mass integration and organization in the historical process. In this respect, the phenomenon of nationalism is the sociological element that brings out mass movements by combining individual-individual, individual-group, group-group relations around common values. In this study, the phenomenon of nationalism will be conceptually discussed and sociologically examined in the context of emotional nationalism with its dimensions of historical development, change and influencing societies. After discussing the concept of nationalism in regard to the aforementioned components, the context of nationalism arising from sympathy under the title “The sociology of the relationship with relatives in the Qur'an as emotional nationalism” will be explained.
