Prof. Dr. İshak ÖZGEL

Born on 20 August 1969 in Van, Turkey, Prof. Dr. İshak Özgel completed his primary education at Hekimoğlu Ali Paşa Primary School in Istanbul. He subsequently memorized the Qur'an in its entirety (hifz) at the Nuruosmaniye Qur'an Course. He completed his secondary and high school education at Istanbul Imam Hatip High School. In 1989, he was admitted to the Faculty of Theology at Marmara University, from which he graduated in 1993.

In 1996, he was awarded the title of Master of Science upon the completion of his Master's thesis entitled "Qur'anic Commentators of the Great Seljuk Period" at the Institute of Social Sciences, Department of Basic Islamic Sciences, Subdivision of Qur'anic Exegesis (Tafsir), Uludağ University.

In 2002, he completed his doctoral degree at the Institute of Social Sciences, Department of Basic Islamic Sciences, Süleyman Demirel University, with a dissertation entitled "The Historical Interpretation of the Qur'an."

In 2003, he was appointed to the position of Assistant Professor in the Department of Qur'anic Exegesis (Tafsir) at the same faculty. Having successfully passed the associate professorship examination in 2011, he was promoted to the rank of Associate Professor, and subsequently attained the title of Full Professor in 2015. He continues to pursue his academic activities at the aforementioned faculty.

In 1994, under the short-term scholarship program of the Ministry of National Education (MNE), he conducted language training and field-related research for three months in Egypt and ninety days in Tunisia. In 1999, he carried out academic studies in the United Kingdom through his own means. In 2006, once again under an MNE scholarship, he spent one year in Jordan engaged in language training and research in his area of specialization.

Prof. Dr. Özgel is the father of two children and has proficiency in both English and Arabic.
