Abstract

American Historian David S.Katz was born in 1953 in New York. He completed his PhD at Oxford University in 1978. Katz's field of study is Early Modern European History. There are many scientific studies in this field. Katz, who has taught at various universities for many years, retired from Tel Aviv University in 2019. Emeritus is a professor. The book The Shaping of Turkey in The Bristish Imagination 1776-1923, which is the subject of our study, was translated into Turkish by Nurettin Elhüseyni with the title “Turks in the Eyes of the British (1776-1923)” and published by Yapı Kredi Publications in 2021. . The main thesis of this book is the different perspectives of the British towards the Turks. We see that important analyzes have been made about how some British who visited Turkey and Eastern countries from the 18th century to the 20th century perceived the Turks and the East.

İngilizlerin Gözünde Türkiye (1776-1923)

Abstract

Amerikalı Tarihçi David S.Katz ,1953’de New York’ta dünyaya gelmiştir. Doktorasını 1978’de Oxford Üniversitesi’nde tamamlamıştır. Katz’ın çalışma alanı Erken Modern Avrupa Tarihidir. Bu alanda birçok sayıda bilimsel çalışmaları bulunmaktadır. Çeşitli üniversitelerde uzun yıllar dersler veren Katz, 2019’da Tel Aviv Üniversitesinden emekli olmuştur. Emeritus profesördür. Çalışmamıza konu olan The Shaping of Turkey in The Bristish Imagination 1776-1923 (İngiliz İmgeleminde Türkiye’nin Şekillenmesi 1776-1923) kitabı Nurettin Elhüseyni tarafından “ İngilizlerin Gözünde Türkler (1776-1923) “başlığı ile Türkçeye çevrilmiş ve 2021 yılında Yapı Kredi Yayınlarından yayımlanmıştır. Bu kitabın ana tezi, İngilizlerin Türklere olan farklı bakış açılarıdır. 18.yüzyıldan 20.yüzyıla kadar Türkiye’ye ve Doğu ülkelerine ziyarette bulunan bazı İngilizlerin Türkleri ve Doğuyu nasıl algıladıklarına dair önemli analizlerde bulunulduğunu görmekteyiz.
