Magazines in Jordan: Emergence and Development

Abstract

This study focuses on the history and development of magazines in Jordan, aiming to contribute to Turkish literature on the topic and serve as a reference for researchers in the Arab world and Jordan. It evaluates the reasons for stagnation and obstacles to magazine development, examining the emergence and publication process of magazines in the Arab world and Jordan. The study examines the types of magazines issued by state institutions, such as the Jordanian Ministry of Culture and the Amman Metropolitan Municipality Cultural Directorate, and the types of magazines that exist in Jordan from the Declaration of Independence to the present. The descriptive research method is used to help researchers gain a comprehensive understanding of the state of magazines in Jordan, identify challenges, and offer recommendations for their development and improvement. The findings can inform policymakers, industry stakeholders, researchers, and journalists about the current status of magazines, enable evidence-based decision-making, and facilitate strategies to promote growth and sustainability in the magazine situation in Jordan. The study found that magazines in Jordan experienced interruptions and fluctuations due to a lack of support. Magazines in Jordan need more government, publications, or private sector support. Innovative revenue models, such as digital subscriptions and targeted advertising, can combat the economic crisis. Diversifying content offerings and adopting digital platforms can increase the reach of magazines and engage a wider audience. Collaborations with other media outlets and partnerships with local and international organizations can facilitate financial sustainability and capacity building.
