The Effects of Zinc, Iron and Bio-fertilizers on Forage Yield and Some Quality properties of Soybean (Glycine max. (L) Merril) in Alkaline Soil Conditions
Abstract
This study, conducted for two years in Iran under alkaline soil conditions, aimed to determine the effects of Plant Growth Promoting Bacteria (PGPB) used as biological fertilizer along with the application of zinc and iron as foliar fertilizers on the forage soybean's green forage yield and some quality parameters. The experiment was established in a completely randomized block design with four replications. In the research, seeds of forage soybean variety Williams were used, and nitrogen-fixing bacteria (Azotobacter), phosphate-solubilizing bacteria (Pseudomonas putida, strain P13, Pantoea agglomerans, strain P5), and zinc and iron fertilizers were applied. The study investigated green forage yield, dry forage yield, crude protein yield, acid detergent fiber (ADF) content, neutral detergent fiber (NDF) content, and relative feed values (RFVs). According to the results obtained from the experiment, the green forage yield ranged from 43193 to 58908 kg ha-1, dry forage yield ranged from 13650 to 18615 kg ha-1, crude protein yield ranged from 1641 to 2732 kg ha-1, ADF content ranged from 28.9% to 35.8%, NDF content ranged from 42.6% to 49.0%, and RFVs ranged from 87.4 to 110.3. Due to the inadequate levels of phosphorus, iron, and zinc in the trial area soils, it was observed that the application of phosphate-solubilizing bacteria with iron and zinc, as well as the use of nitrogen-fixing bacteria, significantly influenced the forage yield and quality of forage soybean.
