The Journal of Engineering Sciences and Design adheres to the publication ethics principles, standards, and recommendations established by COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) and ICMJE (International Committee of Medical Journal Editors). Accordingly, all articles that do not comply with the accepted ethical standards will be withdrawn from publication. This also includes articles containing possible irregularities or inappropriateness identified after publication. Within the scope of publication ethics, all stakeholders are expected to bear the following ethical responsibilities, and all ethical cases will be evaluated according to COPE rules.
Authors' Ethical Responsibilities
Authors must declare that the article they submit to the journal has not been previously published elsewhere or submitted for publication in another journal.
Authors must cite all sources used in the article appropriately and completely; they must clearly state the sources of the quotations and information used.
Authors must acknowledge and declare that the article is an original work and does not contain any plagiarism. All responsibility arising from plagiarism rests with the authors, and the journal bears no responsibility in this regard.
Authors must have made a scientifically and intellectually significant contribution to the article. All authors listed in the article share joint responsibility for the content and integrity of the study.
The corresponding author must guarantee that all co-authors listed in the article agree to the publication of the study and to be listed as co-authors. Individuals who have made significant scientific contributions to the study should be listed as authors; those who do not meet the author criteria should be mentioned in the acknowledgments section.
Authors are obligated to clearly declare the institutions and organizations supporting the study, the financial resources provided, and any conflicts of interest.
Authors must provide access to the datasets used in the research or provide information on how to access this data, if deemed necessary.
Authors must prepare their submitted work in accordance with research and publication ethics principles. For clinical and experimental human or animal research requiring ethical committee approval, the necessary approval must be obtained from the relevant ethics committee; the name of the ethics committee, the approval date, and the decision number must be clearly stated in the article, and the relevant document must be submitted to the journal if necessary.
Similarity Index Information Note
All articles submitted for publication in our journal are subject to a similarity check using iThenticate: Plagiarism Detection Software program before being submitted for editorial approval, effective January 1, 2016.
The similarity report (Similarity Index) generated for each article must be uploaded to the system by the corresponding author during the submission process. The similarity index, excluding the references, should not exceed 20%.
Articles with a similarity index exceeding this limit will be rejected without being included in the scientific evaluation process.
Author Publication Frequency Information Note
For different articles by the same author submitted for publication in our journal, a maximum of two articles accepted within a calendar year will be assigned to the relevant issues based on their acceptance dates.
The third and subsequent articles that have completed the evaluation process and been accepted will be assigned to the issues of the following calendar year in chronological order of their acceptance dates.
Ethical Responsibilities of Reviewers
Reviewers must immediately inform the editor and request to withdraw from the review process if they believe they lack sufficient knowledge and expertise on the subject matter of the article being reviewed, or if they cannot evaluate the article within a reasonable timeframe.
Reviewers are obligated to maintain the confidentiality of the submitted articles and to refrain from using the information and findings obtained during the peer review process for personal or third-party gain.
Reviewers must not share reports, content, or information obtained during the review process with third parties. They must not contact authors directly without the editor's explicit permission.
Reviewers must be vigilant against any ethical issues that may arise in the articles they review and bring any findings to the editor's attention. This includes reporting any significant similarities or overlaps between the article being reviewed and previously published works known to the reviewer.
Peer review evaluations must be impartial, objective, and based on scientific criteria. Criticisms of authors' personalities should be avoided; Reviews should be prepared in a clear, constructive, honest, and respectful manner.
Reviewers must inform the editor before accepting the review assignment and act according to the editor's guidance if they have a potential conflict of interest with any of the authors of the article, whether arising from competition, collaboration, professional relationship, or other connection.
Ethical Responsibilities of the Editorial Board
The editorial board is responsible for determining which articles will be published in the journal. When evaluating articles, the editorial board should not consider the personal characteristics of the authors, such as race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, ethnicity, citizenship, or political views; their evaluations should be based on the scientific accuracy, validity, originality, importance, and suitability of the article to the scope of the journal. Furthermore, current legal and ethical requirements regarding issues such as defamation, copyright infringement, and plagiarism should be considered.
The editor and members of the editorial board are obligated to maintain the confidentiality of information regarding articles under review. Information about the article; It should only be shared with authorized individuals in the review and publication process, such as relevant authors, reviewers, potential reviewers, editorial advisors, and the publisher.
Editors and editorial board members should not use unpublished information, data, and materials contained in an article submitted for review in their own research or for any other purpose without the author's explicit written permission.
Note: Retrospective ethics committee approval is not required for articles that used research data prior to 2020, articles derived from master's/doctoral studies (this should be stated in the article), and articles submitted to the journal in the previous year, accepted, but not yet published.
