Examining Effectiveness of the Intervention Program on the Attitude and Intention of Seeking Psychological Help in Adolescents

Abstract

This research examined the effectiveness of a planned behavior theory-oriented psycho-educational program on adolescents' attitudes and intentions to seek psychological help. The researchers used embedded designs, one of the mixed methods designs. Participants are students at a high school in Iğdır, Turkey, in the 2020-2021 academic year. The research study group consists of 26 people, 13 in the experimental group and 13 in the control group. We used a 2x3 ANOVA model for the effectiveness of the psycho-education program. We conducted content analysis on qualitative data. The study revealed that intervention program was effective in reducing adolescents' negative attitudes towards receiving psychological help and increasing their intention to seek psychological help. In this study, qualitative data supports the quantitative findings. The results show that the theory of planned behavior-oriented psycho-education program is an effective intervention program in reducing negative attitudes towards seeking psychological help and increasing intentions to seek psychological help.

Planlı Davranış Kuramına Yönelik Psiko-Eğitim Programının Ergenlerin Psikolojik Yardım Alma Tutum ve Niyeti Üzerindeki Etkililiğinin İncelenmesi

Abstract

Bu araştırma planlı davranış kuramı yönelimli psiko-eğitim programının ergenlerin psikolojik yardım alma tutumu ve niyeti üzerindeki etkililiğini incelemeyi amaçlamıştır. Bu aşatırma bir karma yöntem araştırmasıdır. Araştırmada iç içe (gömülü) desen kullanılmıştır. Bu çalışma 2020-2021 eğitim-öğretim yılında Iğdır ili merkezde öğrenim gören lise öğrencileri ile yapılmıştır. Araştırmanın çalışma grubu 13 kişi deney grubu, 13 kişi kontrol grubu olmak üzere toplamda 26 kişiden oluşmaktadır. Psiko-eğitim programının etkililiği için 2x3’lük (deney/kontrol grubu x ön-test/son-testi/izleme-testi) Anova modelini kullandık. Nitel verilerin analizinde içerik analizi yapılmıştır. Araştırmada psiko-eğitim programının ergenlerin psikolojik yardım almada olumsuz tutumlarını azalttığı ortaya çıkmıştır. Benzer şekilde ergenlerin psikolojik yardım alma niyetlerini artırmada etkili olduğu ortaya çıkmıştır. Bu araştırmada elde edilen nitel verilerin nicel bulguları desteklediği görülmektedir. Sonuç olarak, planlı davranış kuramı yönelimli psiko-eğitim programının ergenlerin psikolojik yardım almada olumsuz tutumları azaltmada ve psikolojik yardım alma niyetlerini artırmada etkili bir müdahale programı olduğu belirlenmiştir. Planlı davranış kuramı yönelimli psiko-eğitim programının etkililiği alan yazın ışığında tartışılmıştır.
