Hemşirelerin Cerrahi Hastalarında Normoterminin Sürdürülmesi Hakkındaki Bilgi Durumları ve Uygulamaları: Nitel Bir Çalışma Örneği

Year 2022, Volume: 4 Issue: 1, 38 - 50, 25.04.2022

Abstract

Nurses' Knowledge and Practices on Maintaining Normothermia in Surgical Patients: A Qualitative Study Example

Year 2022, Volume: 4 Issue: 1, 38 - 50, 25.04.2022

Abstract

Purpose: This study was conducted to evaluate the knowledge of surgical clinic nurses regarding the maintenance of normothermia and their clinical practice attempts.
Method: The research was conducted with 15 nurses working in the surgical clinics of a university hospital. Data were collected between July 2019 and September 2019 with Personal Information Form and Semi-Structured In-depth Interview Form. The data were analyzed with the traditional content method.
Results: Participating nurses gave a total of 183 opinions. As a result of the content analysis, four main themes and eight sub-themes were determined. All of the nurses stated that normothermia is important. They stated that when deviations from the normothermic value range develop, they act more carefully, especially in hyperthermia, than in the case of hypothermia, they care about the situation, and they apply follow-up, treatment and care interventions.
Conclusions and Suggestions: It has been concluded that nurses working in surgical clinics are aware of normothermia, but they mostly consider hyperthermia in surgical patient follow-up, they know the interventions to be done in case of hypothermia, but they do not apply these interventions.
