Knowledge, Attitudes and Behaviors of University Hospital Employees Regarding Rabies

Year 2024, Volume: 6 Issue: 3, 583 - 595, 25.12.2024

Abstract

Rabies is a fatal zoonotic disease that can be transmitted to humans and can affect all mammals. It remains common worldwide. Studies show that the level of knowledge about rabies is insufficient in our country. This study aims to investigate the knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors of adult individuals regarding rabies. This study is descriptive in nature. Data were collected from 386 individuals working at Necmettin Erbakan University Faculty of Medicine, who provided verbal consent to participate. A data collection form consisting of 32 questions divided into three sections was used SPSS software was used to analyze the data. Frequency distributions and percentages were used to summarize categorical data, while arithmetic mean and standard deviation values were used to evaluate numerical data. Among the participants, 99.0% identified being bitten by a rabid animal as a means of rabies transmission, and 88.6% recognized contact with mucosa or an open wound from rabid animal saliva as another means. Regarding animals that can transmit rabies, 99.5% mentioned dogs, and 83.9% mentioned cats. In terms of prophylaxis after risky exposure, 56.9% of the participants correctly identified the rabies vaccine dose, and 78.5% correctly described the method of administration of the rabies vaccine. This study reveals that individuals possess incomplete and incorrect information on many aspects of rabies. To address these gaps, it is recommended that authorized and expert personnel in hospitals provide training, distribute brochures, and organize informative meetings for healthcare professionals on this subject.

Bir Üniversite Hastanesinde Çalışan Sağlık Çalışanlarının Kuduz Hakkında Bilgi ve Davranışlarının Değerlendirilmesi

Year 2024, Volume: 6 Issue: 3, 583 - 595, 25.12.2024

Abstract

Riskli temas sonrası profilakside kuduz aşısı dozunu katılımcıların %56,9’u, kuduz aşısının uygulama yolunu katılımcıların %78,5’i doğru olarak belirtti.
