Demographic Characteristics Of Turkish National Maternal Deaths In 2014

Year 2016, Volume: 13 Issue: 2, 45 - 47, 01.04.2016

Abstract

Aim: To evaluate the demographic features of the national maternal deaths occurred in Turkey in 2014.Material And Methods: The medical records of all maternal deaths occurred in Turkey in 2014 were examined retrospectively by the National Preliminary Investigation Committee for Maternal Mortalities. The age, gravidity, parity, education level, history of obstetrics and interpregnancy interval were assessed. Results: Two hundred-thirteen maternal deaths have been recorded in Turkey in 2014 and the maternal mortality rate was calculated as 15.2 per 100.000 maternities. The median age of the subjects was 31 Min-max: 17-49 . Maternal death was more frequent among the women with age < 35 years. 11.7 % of women were grandmultipara parity ≥ 5 . 26.9% of the cases were illiterate. Based on their obstetrics history, 57 women had previous cesarean section and one underwent myomectomy. In 36 subjects interpregnancy interval was shorter than 2 years. Conclusion: The early detection of risk factors in pregnant women with advanced maternal age and improving the education level among the women are important issues for decreasing the maternal mortality rates.

2014 Yılı Türkiye Ulusal Anne Ölümlerinin Demografik Verilere Göre Değerlendirilmesi

Year 2016, Volume: 13 Issue: 2, 45 - 47, 01.04.2016
