Evaluation of Sleep Apnea Prevalence During Pregnancy

Year 2015, Volume: 12 Issue: 5, 179 - 182, 01.09.2015

Abstract

Aim: Snoring, apnea attacks and daytime sleepiness are classical symptoms of Obstructive sleep apnea OSA . Although there are many reports regarding the prevalence of snoring during pregnancy in the literature, a few have been reported in our country. We aimed to determine the relation between OSA symptoms, habituel snoring and risk factors.Material and methods: Questionnaires regarding the prevalence of sleep disorders and apnea together with sociodemographic and clinical data of the participants were obtained. Berlin Questionnaire and Epworth sleepiness scale were used to assess OSA symptoms. A hundred pregnant women from each trimester were added to the study. SPSS 19.0 programme was used for statistical calculations. Chi-square, Fischer’s Exact test, t-test were used to analyse the difference between the groups. P values less than 0.05 were regarded to be significant. Results: Two hundred and sixty-six pregnant women out of 300 were thoroughly completed the questionnaires. Eighty nine 33.5% was in first, 82 30.8% was in second, and 95 35.7% was in third trimester. Age of the participants was 16-42 27.1±5.1 . We found snoring and daytime sleepiness in 16.5% of pregnants. There was statistically significant difference in snoring between third trimester and first two trimester p:0.017 . Although statistically insignificant, the prevalence of daytime sleepiness was higher in third trimester. Conclusion: OSA syndrome can lead to significant obstetric complications. OSA should be questioned in each pregnant and be consulted for polysomnography if indicated.

Gebelikte Uyku Apne Sıklığının Değerlendirilmesi

Year 2015, Volume: 12 Issue: 5, 179 - 182, 01.09.2015

Abstract

Her trimesterden 100 gebe çalışmaya dahil edildi. Orta ve ağır apnesi olduğunu düşündüğümüz gebeler bilgilendirilerek polisomnografi önerildi. İstatistiksel analiz için SPSS 19.0 programı kullanıldı. Gruplar arasındaki farkların analizleri için Ki-kare, Fischer’s Exact test, t-test kullanıldı. Ortalamalar ortalama ± standart sapma olarak verildi. Sonuçlardan p0.05 .Sonuç: Obstruktif uyku apne sendromu önemli obstetrik komplikasyonlara yol açabileceği için tüm gebeler OUA bulguları açısından sorgulanmalı ve gerekli görülen gebelerde polisomnografik inceleme önerilmelidir.
