Abstract

Abstract
Kaiser Bolted Bracket (KBB) Moment Connections are widely used for Special Moment Frames in USA and these connections are accepted as pre-qualified moment a connection which means satisfactory performance capacity was proved with experimental studies under earthquake load and take place in AISC358-16. However, this connection type does not take place in Turkish Building Design Code (TBDY-2018) as recommended moment connection for Special Moment Frames. In this study, it was aimed to illustrate design steps of high-performance KBB Moment Connections were studied with European steel shapes and steel quality for utilization of Turkish and European structural engineers. All designed steps for both column side and beam side were explained and a numerical example was presented. A calculation algorithm and an excel design program were developed to investigate the effect of design parameters on whole design process. The effect of beam size and bracket geometry on design process were determined and presented as graphical illustration.
