The aim of this study is to determine which values are included in the 8th grade Turkish textbook and the distribution of these values according to text types. For the research, 32 texts consisting of reading texts, poems and free reading texts in the 8th grade Turkish textbook prepared by the Ministry of National Education Board of Education and Discipline and taught in the 2021-2022 academic year were examined. On the other hand, listening/watching texts in the textbook were not included in the research. In this study, which was organized according to the qualitative research method, data were obtained by using document analysis, one of the qualitative data collection methods. First of all, each text in the Turkish textbook was examined in terms of the values it conveyed. Accordingly, it has been observed that a value in a text occurs in different numbers in different parts of the text. After analyzing each text in detail, the values were also examined according to the text types. In this review, the texts were evaluated in eleven categories as comics, essays, epics, anecdotes, travel writings, stories, articles, novels, conversations, poems, and theater genres. Accordingly, it has been determined which type of texts the values are mostly given. The texts constituting the data source of the study were subjected to document analysis. As a result, the number of values found in the texts in the 8th grade Turkish textbook is as follows, from high to low: love, protecting cultural heritage, friendship, being kind, patriotism, hard work, self-confidence, respect, courage, honesty, greeting, compassion-compassion, sacrifice, tolerance, doing good, giving importance to family unity, being sharing, responsibility, helping-solidarity, optimism, leadership, hospitality, cleanliness, being fair, being humble, being able to think independently and freely, and developing aesthetic feelings. The expression about the empathy value could not be determined in the texts. My Heart Stayed in Rumelia, Canberra and Kınalı Ali's Letter are the texts where the diversity of values is seen the most.
Sonuç olarak 8.sınıf Türkçe ders kitabındaki metinlerde bulunan değerlerin sayıları bulgulara göre yüksekten aza doğru şu şekildedir: sevgi, kültürel mirasa sahip çıkma, dostluk, nazik olmak, vatanseverlik, çalışkanlık, özgüven, saygı, cesaret, dürüstlük, selamlaşma, şefkat- merhamet, fedakarlık, hoşgörü, iyilik yapmak, aile birliğine önem verme, paylaşımcı olmak, sorumluluk, yardımlaşma- dayanışma, iyimserlik, liderlik, misafirperverlik, temizlik, adil olma, alçakgönüllü olma, bağımsız ve özgür düşünebilme, estetik duyguların geliştirilmesidir.
