A STUDY ON THE INTERACTION BETWEEN DISCIPLINES: THE INTERACTION BETWEEN FASHION AND ARCHITECTURE
Abstract
Architecture and fashion have always been
intertwined. These two disciplines, which sometimes coalesce very clearly, are
based on human scales, both of which are two parallel sectors aimed at
addressing aesthetic values. The clothes at the beginning, the shelter that was
built afterwards, were produced in order to provide a shelter that protects it
from the primitive ages for day-to-day, human body. It is a fact that primitive
people are inspired by textile materials in their garments while creating the concept
of 'home' both aesthetically and functionally. In addition, both disciplines
mainly produce three-dimensional design products from two-dimensional
materials. The interactions between the interdisciplinary fashion and the
architecture, the similarities, the common designs have made the interaction of
the two disciplines visible. These two design disciplines utilize common
concepts and create their designs, fed by common design elements, despite the
differences in scale and materials used. Common concepts and methods of fashion
and architecture disciplines; They share their intuitive attitudes, scientific,
social, economic, cultural, technological, artistic and aesthetic approaches
with each other and provide new transfers to their fields with this
cooperation. Concepts, design methods, terminology, forms, structures, surfaces
reflect themselves in the field of architecture and textiles as current
reflections of both fields. This communion and sharing allows both disciplines
to turn into a source of development for the other. In the present paper, the
historical parallels between architecture and fashion design disciplines are
underlined and the common points of fashion and architecture discipline are
tried to be explained, and their similarities and interactions are emphasized.
The common concepts used by their designers from both disiplins are explored.
