Art Museum

Abstract

In this article, E. H. Gombrich discusses art museums in the context of past, present and future. He later published a text designed as a conference text in the Critical Inquiry magazine, and then included it as a chapter in his book Ideals and Idols Essay on Values in History and in Art.

Sanat Müzesi

Abstract

Ernst Hans Josef Gombrich (30 Mart 1909-3 Kasım 2001), Viyana Üniversitesi’ndeki sanat tarihi eğitiminden sonra 1936’da İngiltere’de Warburg Enstitüsü'de arastırma görevlisi oldu. Bu enstitü 1933’te Almanya’da Nazi yönetiminin izniyle İngiltere’ye taşınmıştı. Gombrich, II. Dünya Savaşı yılları BBC’de Nazi Almanyası propaganda yayını takipçisi olarak çalıştı. 1947’de İngiliz vatandaşlığına geçti. Oxford Üniversitesinde üç yıl ders verdi. Londra Üniversitesi, 1959’da ona Klasik Gelenek Tarihi Profesörü unvanı vererek, Gertrud Bing’in emekli olmasıyla, Warburg Enstitüsü'nün Başkanlığına getirdi. Bu görevi 1976'da emekli oluncaya kadar sürdürdü. 1960'ta British Akademisi üyesi ve 1972'de Şövalye ilan edildi. 1988’de Liyakat Nişanına layık görüldü. Aynı zamanda British Museum'un mütevelli üyesi, Amerikan Sanat ve Bilim Akademisi'nin ve Amerikan Felsefe Derneği'nin yabancı üyesidir. Eserlerinin bazıları şunlardır; Dünya Tarihi (A little history of World, 1935), Sanatın Öyküsü (The Story of Art, 1950), Sanat ve Yanılsama (Art and Illusion,1960 ), Norm ve Form (Norm and Form, 1966), Kültürel Tarih Arayışı (In the Search of Cultural History, 1969), Sembolik İmgeler (Symbolic Images, 1972), İmge ve Göz (The Image and the Eye, 1981), İlkelin Tercihi (The Preference for the Primitive, 2002) v.b. E.H. Gombrich, bu konferans metnini “Müze: Dünü, Bugünü ve Geleceği” (Museum: Past, Present and Future) adıyla Critical Inquiry, Vol. 3, No. 3 (Spring, 1977), pp. 449-470 adlı dergide yayımlamıştır. Daha sonra Ideals and Idols Essay on Values in History and in Art [Phaidoni Oxford,1979, ss. 189-204] adlı kitabına da bir bölüm olarak eklemiştir. Bu çalışmada dipnotlu olan birinci metin tercih edilmiştir.
