Evaluation of the Mammalian Fauna of Sinop Province
Abstract
This study aimed to determine the mammal fauna of the Sinop. For this purpose, in different habitats
in the province of Sinop, field and observational study was conducted in 2012-2014. This research resulted in
the terrestrial and aquatic biotope at Sinop Province, is likely to spread 42 mammal species were identified. This
mammal species belong to the following orders; Carnivora (11 species), Chiroptera (10 species), Rodentia (10
species), Soricomorpha (4 species), Artiodactyla (3 species), Cetacea (2 species) Lagomorpha (1 species) and
Erinaceomorpha (1 species). Sinop mammalian fauna, evaluated by IUCN category are determined endangered
species. In this context, Miniopterus schreibersii- common bent-wing bat is NT (near threatened) category;
Rhinolophus mehelyi- Mehely’s horseshoe bat is VU (vulnerable) category and one Carnivora species (Lutra lutracommon
otter) is NT (near threatened) category in Sinop province. Other mammal species in the LC (low risk,
widely distributed) category. Belonging to the family Cervidae, roe deer (Capreolus capreolus) is designated as the
target species in Sinop Bozburun Wildlife Development Land. There are no endemic mammalian species in Sinop.
