Shale Gas in Turkey According to the Latest Developments

Abstract

Energy prices are de ned as the basic parameters of the world economy. The economic balance of the countries dependent on foreign energy is impaired. Today, the future of fossil-based energy sources is the subject of debate. Therefore, more ecologically harmless and right orientation is the new question on renewable energy sources. However, new and renewable sources of long-term measurements and a number of companies operating in the energy market because of infrastructure works and the country leads to cautious approach to these resources. In this context, the energy sector has emerged a new and exciting enterprise. Because of long years of known advanced drilling method of shale gas assets and the increasing demand for energy has raised the need of ef cient energy removal. If shale gas spreads all over the world, it will not only affect producers but it will also create serious pressure on the sector that supports investing in renewable energy sources covered in Europe and Turkey. In particular, it is expressed by different organizations that the U.S. will experience a serious recession in the nuclear energy. Providing approximately 80% of its energy from external sources, different strategies for energy in recent years in Turkey, as always, are being developed. Among these strategies, there are investments such as establishment of shale gas, shale oil and nuclear power plants. According to a report published in Turkey recently, it has been estimated that approximately 424 billion cubic meters of shale gas reserves exist in Turkey (EIA). Upon this, in the region of Thrace with TPAO and US Company Halliburton and in the Southeastern Anatolia, several exploration with companies TPAO and Shell was launched. The results of the study are expected to be clear by the end of 2015.
