Rapid developments in Information Technologies (IT) changes and challenges the construction
sector, where each stage of the life-cycle namely planning, design, construction, operation and management is
transformed. This new era, Building Information Modeling (BIM), integrates data, business functions and supports
the decision making process through the whole life-cycle that in return increases the performance very significantly.
This was hardly achieved previously. In general, the availability of only the two dimensional drawings of various
sections of the construction model, the lack of three dimensional final form, the inability to detect the changes that
might have occurred over time, and not keeping the attributes belonging to building elements in digital environment
causes devastating performance loss. BIM has proven to be incredibly effective to overcome such challenges and
now a mandatory standard for many countries. There are recent BIM examples in Turkey as well. The approach
and core model of BIM is spatial, hence data acquisition, modelling, analyzing techniques of Spatial Information
Science are vastly used. Hence, in order to highlight the role of spatial information science in BIM, all phases
including data acquisition, modelling, analyses and visualization is performed for some elements of a Faculty
and results are discussed within this study. In order to model the current status of the construction element, laser
scanning technologies are used, where three dimensional point clouds are achieved. The same object was measured
in 2006 via geodetic techniques that enables to compare changes due to time. Hence, generated BIM models are
compared in order to detect the revision of the construction element. In order to automatize the revision process, a
spatial algorithm is designed and coded. Major findings, encountered problems and possible solutions are discussed.
