Assessment of Kehli Stream into which Effluents of Elazığ Municipal Wastewater Treatment Plant are Discharged for Availability as Irrigation Water

Abstract

In this study, the usability of Kehli stream carrying the effluents of Elazığ Municipal Wastewater
Treatment Plant as irrigation water was investigated. Surface water samples were taken from Kehli stream during
12 weeks and parameters were analyzed. The highest electrical conductivity value and total dissolved solids
concentration were determined as 1150 µS cm
-1 at week 9 and 980 mg L-1 at week 10, respectively. It was determined
that there will not be any negative effects on soil infltration when Kehli stream was used as irrigation water. When
chlorine concentrations of Kehli stream (<178 mg L
-1) were compared with the values of criteria of irrigation water,
it could be said that the most sensitive plants are almond, apricot and plum. When sodium adsorption ratios of Kehli
stream (between 2 and 8) were compared with the values of criteria of irrigation water, it could be said that the
most sensitive plants are deciduous fruit trees, citrus and avocado. As a result, it was determined that Kehli stream
could be used as irrigation water. The plants which could be cultivated in the irrigated felds were also determined
by this study

Elazığ Belediyesi Atıksu Arıtma Tesisi Çıkış Sularının Verildiği Kehli Deresinin Sulama Suyu Olarak Kullanılabilirliğinin Değerlendirilmesi

Abstract

ÖZET: Bu çalışmada, Elazığ Belediyesi Atıksu Arıtma Tesisi (EBAAT) çıkış sularının verildiği Kehli deresinin
sulama suyu olarak kullanılabilirliği araştırılmıştır. Kehli deresinden 12 hafta boyunca yüzeysel su numuneleri
alınmış ve sulama suyu kalite parametreleri analiz edilmiştir. En yüksek elektriksel iletkenlik değeri 9. hafta 1150
µS cm
-1 olarak, toplam çözünmüş madde konsantrasyonu ise 10. hafta 980 mg L-1 olarak tespit edilmiştir. Kehli
deresi sulama suyu olarak kullanıldığında, toprak infltrasyonu üzerine herhangi bir olumsuz etkinin olmayacağı
belirlenmiştir. Kehli deresinin klor konsantrasyonları (<178 mg L
-1), sulama suyu kriterlerinin değerleri ile
mukayese edildiğinde, en hassas bitkilerin badem, kayısı ve erik olduğu söylenebilir. Kehli deresinin sodyum
adsorpsiyon oranı değerleri (2-8 arasında), sulama suyu kriterlerinin değerleri ile mukayese edildiğinde, en hassas
bitkilerin yaprak döken meyve ağaçları, turunçgiller ve avokado olduğu söylenebilir. Sonuç olarak, Kehli deresinin
sulama suyu olarak kullanılabileceği belirlenmiştir. Sulanan alanlarda hangi tür ürünlerin yetiştirilebileceği de bu
çalışmayla belirlenmiştir
