In this study, drop transportation efficiency of standard flat fan, hollow cone, air induction and twin
jet hydraulic nozzles (4 bar operational pressure), and spinning disc nozzle (1.5 bar operational pressure, 4500
min-1 disc speed) and air-assisted spray head (1.5 bar operational pressure, 3500 min-1 fan speed, 20-25 m s-1 air
speed) were compared. Trials were conducted on concrete floor and in the field conditions on potato canopies. In
the trials conducted on concrete floor, positive and a significant correlation (Pearson correlation coefficient r=0.689,
p<0.000) was found between application rate ( l ha-1) and spray coverage (%) and, spray coverage varied very significantly
according to droplet diameter (DV.50). In the trials conducted on concrete floor, transportation efficiency
of applied liquid volume with air induction and twin jet hydraulic nozzles were changed between 80% and 99.5%.
These ratios were determined between 66% and 78% for flat fan and hollow cone nozzles, 44% and 51% for spinning
disc nozzle, 63% and 64% for air assisted spray head. At the top of potato plant, the highest transportation
efficiency of drops reaching the upper side of the leaves were determined with air induction (50%) and twin jet
(%48) hydraulic nozzles. Air-assisted spray head had the lowest transportation efficiency (23%) than other spray
nozzles. At the top of the plant, the highest transportation efficiency under side of the leaves was found at air assisted
spray head (14%).
