In this study, the distribution natural spontaneous births within a day was investigated for Akkaraman
sheep reared with traditional methods. The effects of birth type and year on birth time were examined. Within a
day, birth time was categorized into 4 sub-groups; namely, 22.00:04.00, 04.00:10.00, 10.00:16.00, and 16.00:22.00
hours, respectively. Chi-Square statistic was used with the aim of determining the association of birth time with
dam age, sex, birth type, and year at a significance level of 0.05. In the study of two years, 156 male and 156 female
lambs were born from 288 lambing. The numbers of single and twin born lambs were 264 and 24. Generally,
31.2% of all the births was intensively 16.00: 22.00 hours, but 15.6% was 22.00: 04:00 hours. The effects of dam
age and birth year on birth time were significant (P<0.05) but the effects of sex and birth type were insignificant.
