Today, teachers have great duties in the formation and shaping of knowledge societies. From this point of view, the teachers need to be trained in a way that is capable of responding to the needs of the age and versatile. In order for teachers to be able to train future generations well, it is possible to have enough practice in addition to the theoretical knowledge they should have in undergraduate education. For these reasons, two of the most important courses in teacher education are School Experience and Teaching Practice.
School Experience and Teaching Practice courses given in each department in the Education Faculties are practice-oriented courses in which the direct knowledge, skills and attitudes of the pre-service teachers develop about the teaching profession. These courses consist of planned observations and activities aimed at promoting the many tasks that constitute teaching profession to pre-service teachers. The pre-service teachers, who usually study in their last year, gain their first experience in practice schools through these two courses.
In the literature, several researches were conducted to examine the opinions of pre-service teachers about the courses of School Experience and Teaching Practice. When these studies are examined, it is stated that there are common problems in terms of these courses that both pre-service teachers, faculty members and school teachers faced with. Some of the problems in the School Experience and Teaching Practice courses can be listed as follows: Not selecting the practice schools well, too many students taking the course, pre-service teachers’ level of readiness for these courses being low, course communication problems between stakeholders etc. It is considered that all stakeholders of these could make significant contributions to the efficiency of the courses through web based systems for all stages of these courses. Therefore, a web-based support system has been developed for use in these courses. In this study, the views of the pre-service teachers who took the course of the school experience given by web based support system were examined.
This research is a descriptive study conducted to describe the characteristics of the case studied. In the research, the views of the pre-service teachers about the school experience course given using the web based support system were investigated descriptively. The study group of the researcher constitutes 44 pre-service teachers who are studying in the 4th grade of Kırıkkale University Education Faculty Computer Education and Instructional Technology Education in the period of 2015-2016. In this study, the views of the pre-service teachers who took the School Experience course were collected by the School Experience Classroom Attitude Scale (ODDTÖ) and it has been added to four open ended questions to get students’ views on the Web Based Support System.
When the results of the study were examined, it was seen that the views of the pre-service teachers were positive in general with these courses. In particular, the students thought that the School Experience course is necessary and that they love teaching profession and gain experience. Also, it is thought that the use of the Web Based Support System in the School Experience course has increased the effectiveness of this course. In particular, some of the advantages provided are highlighted by the pre-service teachers, such as the ability to save time and the ability to follow-up prepared reports electronically. In short, web-based support systems could be used to provide and enhance cooperation among stakeholders in courses such as School Experience and Teaching Practice.
