Cenozoic Volcanism in Thrace and its Regional Distribution

Abstract

This paper discusses the regional distribution and geochemical characteristics of the Cenozoic volcanism of Thrace that commenced in Upper Eocene continuing intermittently until the end of Pliocene. The volcanic rocks of the region that Upper Eocene-Upper Oligocene aged originated along a collision zone, are of calcalkaline to high potassic calcalkaline affinities. The volcanism of the period of Upper Miocene is originated from, the mantle, with considerable crustal contamination, and they are shoshonitic affinity. A basaltic volcanism originated from the mantle, of alkaline offinity occurred during the Pliocene constituting the final stages of Cenozoic activity in Thrace.

Trakya'daki Senozoyik Volkanizması ve Bölgesel Yayılımı

Abstract

Trakya yarımadasında yüzlekler veren ve Üst Eosen'den başlayarak çeşitli evrelerle Pliyosen sonuna değin devam eden Senozoyik volkanitlerinde jeokimyasal çalışmalar yapılmış ve volkanizmanın bölgesel yayılımı araştırılmıştır. Bölgede Üst Eosen-Üst Oligosen arasında yüzlekler veren volkanitler kalkalkalen ve Yüksek Potasyumlu Kalkalkalen nitelikte olup çoğunlukla kabuksal köken ağırlıklıdırlar ve bir çarpışma zonunda meydana gelmişlerdir. Üst Miyosen’de kabuk ve manto karışımı, şoşonitik nitelikli melez bir volkanizma oluşmuştur. Pliyosen'de ise manto köken ağırlıklı ve alkali nitelikli bazaltik volkanitler meydana gelerek Trakya'daki volkanik evrim tamamlanmıştır.
