THE RELATİONSHİP BETWEEN THE NURSING STUDENTS’ FULFILLMENT OF EXPECTATIONS FROM NURSES AND CLINICAL PRACTİCE SUCCESS

Abstract

Bacground: A descriptive cross-sectional design. The study was conducted at the nursing faculty of a university in Turkey. The study sample consisted of 198 senior nursing students who completed at least one semester of internship practice. Objectives: To evaluate the relationship between the level of meeting the expectations of nursing students from nurses in clinical practice and their clinical practice success. Methods: Data were collected by the survey method. ''The Descriptive Information Data Collection Form'' and ''Students’ Expectations from Nurses and Their Meeting Status Survey Form'' were used to collect data. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson correlations, and simple linear regression analysis. SPSS version 25.0 was used to evaluate the data. Results: The most met expectation of the students from nurses was ''Helping me to improve my nursing skills'', whereas the least met expectation was ''Allocating enough time to me''. The expectation with the highest correlation between the clinical practice success score was “Motivating me during clinical practice”. The nurses' level of meeting the expectations of the students is a statistically significant predictor of the clinical practice success score and explains 13.7% of the total variance. Conclusions: The level of meeting the expectations of nursing students from nurses can affect the clinical practice success score. The results of this study will contribute to increase the collaboration between nursing schools and hospitals.
