Abstract

Background: The Roy Adaptation Model is one of the commonly used models in nursing for systematic care delivery. This model assists individuals in developing adaptive responses to the problems they encounter, thereby aiding the individual in adapting to life changes.

Objective: The aim of the study is to qualitatively investigate the adaptation status of septorhinoplasty patients according to the Roy Adaptation Model after surgery.

Method: The conceptual framework of the study, designed as a descriptive qualitative research, is based on the Roy Adaptation Model. The sample of the research consisted of 14 patients who underwent primary septorhinoplasty. Data were collected using the “Individual Information Form and Semi-structured Interview Form” developed by the researchers, employing an in-depth interview technique. The data were analyzed using the Maxqda program.

Results: According to the Roy Adaptation Model of patients with septorhinoplasty, in the Physiological Field; protection, neurological, sensory, nutrition, activity-rest and oxygenation; positive and negative physical appearance in the Self-Concept Field; not having problems in fulfilling their responsibilities or postponing their responsibilities in the Role Functioning Field; and it has been determined that they exhibited compatible and incompatible behaviors towards situations such as support sources, esteem and information needs in the Field of Mutual Commitment.

Conclusion: It was determined that after septorhinoplasty surgery, patients exhibited compatible and incompatible behaviors in all four areas according to the Roy Adaptation Model, and a behavior experienced in any adaptation area also affected other areas. It is recommended that effective nursing interventions be planned and implemented to identify patients’ incompatible behaviors and turn them into compatible behaviors.

Septorinoplasti Hastalarının Ameliyat Sonrası Yaşamlarına Uyum Durumlarının Roy Adaptasyon Modeline Göre İncelenmesi

Year 2024, , 622 - 636, 15.10.2024
https://doi.org/10.46483/jnef.1566709
