MULTIVARIATE ATTRIBUTE ANALYSIS OF ARTWORKS IN PUBLIC SPACES

Year 2025, Volume: 1 Issue: 1, 62 - 74, 30.12.2025

Abstract

In this research, it has been aimed to reveal institutional and socioeconomic dynamics by analyzing attribute patterns associated with institutional preferences in public artworks located in urban landscapes. The increasing urbanization and urban planning initiatives' use of public art as a tool necessitate the examination of inequalities in the distribution of these artworks. In the study, large-scale digital visual databases such as the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality's (IMM) online Cultural Heritage Inventory have been used as material, and a quantitative method based on table data has been adopted. As the most appropriate and statistically powerful method for the study, Multiple Logistic Regression Analysis was chosen, allowing the analysis of a categorical dependent variable such as the artwork's Institutional Prestige/Permanence Status (Probability of being a permanent monumental work). The analyses revealed that the probability of an artwork being permanent and monumental is statistically significantly positively correlated with the variables of being commissioned by major public institutions and being made of expensive materials such as bronze or marble. This attribute prioritization has been examined through the role of art in gentrification and the mechanisms of geographically constructing cultural capital. According to the data obtained from the research, in order to ensure spatial justice in urban planning strategies, resources should be directed towards art forms that support social inclusion rather than institutional prestige.

KAMUSAL ALANLARDA SANAT ESERLERİNİN ÇOK DEĞİŞKENLİ ÖZNİTELİK ANALİZİ

Year 2025, Volume: 1 Issue: 1, 62 - 74, 30.12.2025
