Examination of Factors Affecting Economic Growth: A Panel Data Analysis for Founding OECD Countries

Year 2022, Volume: 7 Issue: 2, 263 - 273, 30.12.2022

Abstract

Economic growth is one of the important determinants of the economies of countries. It is important to determine the source of economic growth and to carry out studies in this direction. It is aimed to determine the factors affecting economic growth for the period covering 1990-2020 for the founding OECD countries in this study. In the analysis, the effects of exports, imports, inflation, foreign direct investments, fixed capital formation, labor force participation rate and school enrollment rate variables on economic growth were investigated. The coefficients of exports, imports, inflation, foreign direct investments, and fixed capital formation variables are statistically significant; the coefficients of the labor force participation rate and school enrollment rate variables were found to be insignificant. Panel data analysis techniques were used to determine the relationship between the variables. As a result, it has been found that exports, imports, foreign direct investments, and fixed capital formation increase economic growth and inflation decreases growth.
