Futbol ve Karakter: Oyuncuların Prososyal ve Antisosyal Davranış Eğilimleri

Year 2025, Volume: 8 Issue: 2, 45 - 55
https://doi.org/10.55142/jogser.1725609

Abstract

The Effect of Character on Prosocial and Antisocial Behaviors in Football Players

Year 2025, Volume: 8 Issue: 2, 45 - 55
https://doi.org/10.55142/jogser.1725609

Abstract

This study investigates the influence of character traits on prosocial and antisocial behaviors among athletes competing in amateur football leagues. Employing a relational survey model within a quantitative research framework, data were collected from 409 male amateur football players aged 18 and above. Participants were selected through a convenience sampling method. The Sport Character Scale was used to assess character traits, while the Prosocial and Antisocial Behavior in Sport Scale measured behavioral tendencies in sports contexts. Data analyses were conducted using SPSS 25.0, with normality tests applied to ensure appropriate statistical procedures. Findings revealed a significant positive relationship between character traits and prosocial behaviors, and a significant negative relationship with antisocial behaviors. Notably, dimensions such as honesty, compassion, sportsmanship, and fairness emerged as strong predictors of prosocial conduct. Conversely, antisocial behaviors were inversely associated with the athletes’ character levels. The results underscore the critical role of ethical values and character development in fostering positive interactions among athletes, both within teams and with opponents. In light of these findings, the study recommends the widespread implementation of educational programs aimed at promoting character development in sports.
