The Effect of Cartoons Broadcasted on Television to The Socialization Process of Elementary School Students

Abstract

Analysis of the effects of cartoons telecasted on Turkish televisions on the socialization process of elementary education students 4th, 5th and 6th graders was aimed in this research. The data were collected by the “The Behavior Scale on the Evaluation of the Effects of Animated Cartoons Telecasted on Turkish Televisions to Primary Education Students’ Socialization Process” and assessed and the sampling was determined by the “Simple Random Sampling” type of the “Cluster Sampling”. The scale application study was conducted in 18 schools randomly selected from the elementary schools in 9 central counties in Ankara. For the scale development; the application was made with 572 students in the scope of the Explanatory Factor Analysis EFA and with 350 students in the scope of Confirmatory Factor Analysis CFA . The scale was applied to 150 students. The characteristics of the variables were assessed and t-test, variance analysis ANOVA , Kruskal Wallis H Test and Mann-Whitney U Test was conducted. There was no significant difference found in the research in terms of socializing scale scores p>0,05 between the television animation film watching hours. There was no significant difference in terms of socialization scale scores between the class levels of the children participating in the research p>0,05 .
