Abstract

The paper titled "Integrating Multi-Level Values and Pro-Environmental Behaviour into Protected Areas: A Case of Ikogosi Warm Spring in Ekiti State, Nigeria" examines the intricate relationship between individual, cultural, and societal values and their influence on pro-environmental behavior (PEB) within protected areas. It highlights the significance of understanding multilevel values—comprising biospheric, altruistic, egoistic, and hedonic dimensions—as essential drivers of environmental stewardship. The study focuses on Ikogosi Warm Spring, a unique ecological site that serves as a model for community engagement in conservation efforts. Through a comprehensive literature review and empirical analysis, the research demonstrates that altruistic and biospheric values strongly predict PEB, accounting for a significant portion of the variance in environmentally responsible actions among residents. The findings underscore the necessity of integrating these values into conservation strategies to foster community ownership and enhance biodiversity protection. Ultimately, this paper advocates for inclusive management approaches that recognize and incorporate local perspectives, thereby promoting sustainable practices and improving the effectiveness of conservation initiatives in protected areas.

Abstract

Bu makale, bireysel, kültürel ve toplumsal değerler arasındaki karmaşık ilişkiyi ve bunların korunan alanlardaki çevre yanlısı davranışlar (PEB) üzerindeki etkisini incelemektedir. Biyosferik, özgecil, egoist ve hedonik boyutları içeren çok düzeyli değerlerin çevresel yönetimin temel itici güçleri olarak anlaşılmasının önemini vurgulamaktadır. Çalışma, koruma çabalarına toplum katılımı için bir model olarak hizmet eden eşsiz bir ekolojik alan olan Ikogosi Ilık Pınarı'na odaklanmaktadır. Kapsamlı bir literatür taraması ve ampirik analiz yoluyla araştırma, özgeci ve biyosferik değerlerin PEB'i güçlü bir şekilde öngördüğünü ve sakinler arasında çevreye duyarlı eylemlerdeki varyansın önemli bir bölümünü oluşturduğunu göstermektedir. Bulgular, toplum sahiplenmesini teşvik etmek ve biyoçeşitliliğin korunmasını geliştirmek için bu değerlerin koruma stratejilerine entegre edilmesinin gerekliliğinin altını çizmektedir. Sonuç olarak bu makale, yerel perspektifleri tanıyan ve dahil eden kapsayıcı yönetim yaklaşımlarını savunmakta, böylece sürdürülebilir uygulamaları teşvik etmekte ve korunan alanlardaki koruma girişimlerinin etkinliğini artırmaktadır.
