Assessment of the Quantitative Analysis of Urban Open and Green Spaces in the Case of Eğirdir Urban Centre

Abstract

This study uses GIS-based quantitative analysis to evaluate the status and spatial distribution of public open and green spaces across the 24 neighbourhoods of Eğirdir District, Isparta-Türkiye, assessing active and passive green space typologies against the 10 m² per capita standard set by Turkish planning legislation. A total of 270,341.70 m² of active green space was identified, yielding 17.07 m² per capita district-wide apparently exceeding the standard. However, neighbourhood-scale analysis reveals pronounced spatial inequality: 61.43% of this total is concentrated in a single, largely derelict space, without which per capita provision falls to 6.83 m², and ten neighbourhoods have none at all. Aggregate standards can thus conceal significant local disparities, underscoring the need for equity- and accessibility-based planning.
