Triphenylamine-based turn-on fluorescent probe for selective and sensitive detection of bisulfite/sulfite

Abstract

A triphenylamine-based turn-on fluorescent probe has been developed for the highly selective and sensitive detection of bisulfite (HSO₃⁻)/sulfite(SO₃2⁻) ions in aqueous media. Upon reaction with HSO₃⁻/SO₃2⁻, the probe undergoes a specific chemical transformation via aldehyde functionality, resulting in a significant fluorescence enhancement. The probe shows excellent selectivity over other anions and a low detection limit, making it a promising tool for real-time monitoring of HSO₃⁻/SO₃²⁻. Furthermore, the probe was successfully applied to detect HSO₃⁻/SO₃²⁻ in real water samples, demonstrating its potential for practical environmental monitoring.
