POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE ASPECTS OF DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION FOR BUSINESSES: A QUALITATIVE RESEARCH

Abstract

Digital transformation can be defined as the strategic adoption of digital technologies with the objective of enhancing organizational processes, improving service delivery, and creating new value propositions. The aim of this study is to identify the positive and negative causes and outcomes of digital transformation for businesses using a qualitative approach. Digital transformation offers numerous advantages, such as enhancing business efficiency, reducing costs, and strengthening the potential for developing innovative products and services. Additionally, improving customer experience and providing a competitive advantage stand out as significant benefits. However, digital transformation processes also pose various challenges for businesses. Notable negative aspects include the lack of digital skills among employees, data security risks, high costs, and the necessity to adapt to rapid technological changes. This study employs qualitative research methods to examine in detail the barriers, opportunities, and threats encountered by businesses during their digital transformation processes. As a result, digital transformation emerges as an essential goal for businesses to achieve. Furthermore, the interviews revealed 12 positive and 8 negative outcomes of digital transformation from the perspective of businesses. In this context, several recommendations are proposed to enhance the positive aspects and mitigate the negative ones for businesses.
