Abstract

Abstract

This study investigates the effects of a four-week Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization (DNS) exercise program on freestyle sprint speed and core stabilization among students enrolled in swimming courses at Istanbul Rumeli University. The research was conducted using an experimental design based on a pre-test and post-test model. A total of 28 students, comprising 10 females and 18 males, participated in the study. To measure the athletes' performance, two distinct tests, the "Prone Extension Test" and the "Leg Lowering Test," were administered. Following the DNS exercise regimen, the participants' 25-meter freestyle sprint times and core stabilization capabilities were evaluated. Data analysis was performed using SPSS 25.0 software, starting with the Shapiro-Wilk normality test, followed by the Wilcoxon test. The level of significance was set at p<0.05. Statistical analysis revealed that while the DNS exercises did not show a significant effect on core stabilization as measured by the "Prone Extension Test," there were significant improvements in the 25-meter sprint times and "Leg Lowering Test" results (p<0.05). These findings demonstrate the positive effects of DNS exercises on swimming performance, suggesting that such training could enhance swimmers' freestyle sprint capabilities. The results recommend further detailed examination of the use and effects of DNS exercises in the swimming discipline. This could enable coaches and sports scientists to develop more effective methods to enhance athletic performance
