Yaşlı Bireyin Türkiye Serüveni: Türkiye’de Yaşlı Bireyler Arasında Kültürel Sermaye Dağılımı

Year 2009, Volume: 8 Issue: 1, 77 - 100, 01.06.2009

Abstract

The Adventure of Elderly in Turkey: Distribution of Cultural Capital among Elderly in Turkey

Year 2009, Volume: 8 Issue: 1, 77 - 100, 01.06.2009

Abstract

Cultural capital is significant in terms of determining one’s social position in Turkey. If cultural capital distinguishes a specific group of people in the sense of raising above others in society, it can be said that cultural capital does not only cause a social difference but also a social inequality. This kind of problem of inequality affirmed that distribution of cultural capital is not random, and its regularities are also in accordance with the other distorted dimensions of social structure. When the distribution of cultural capital is analyzed in this frame, these two questions should be answered: Is it possible to talk about differentiation in the distribution of cultural capital empirically, besides, what statistical regularities can be observed in differentiated cultural capital distribution in Turkey? In this respect, how the use of cultural capital organizes daily life in the process of social differentiation in old ages? In this paper, the European Quality of Life Survey, 2004 data that was collected in 2004 will be analyzed to understand the how the distribution of cultural capital effects the life chances of generations in Turkey
