Abstract

This obituary discusses the contributions of the late historian, Rifa'at Abou-El-Haj (1933-2022), to the field of Ottoman History. It describes the influence of his scholarship on the growing literature on the early-modern Ottoman Empire. It also references his mentorship of graduate students and the signficance of his critical approach to scholarship in the field.

Abstract

Bu vefayat yazısı merhum tarihçi, Rifa'at Abou-El-Haj’ın (1933-2022) Osmanlı tarihine katkılarını ele almaktadır. Abou-El-Haj’ın çalışmalarının gittikçe zenginleşen erken-modern dönem Osmanlı tarihçiliği üzerindeki etkisi bilhassa vurgulanmıştır. Ayrıca doktora öğrencilerine gösterdiği rehberlik ile eleştirel yaklaşımı ve çalışmalarının alan için taşıdığı öneme de değinilmektedir.
