Abstract
This paper reviews Remzi Avcı’s Kurgu ile Gerçeklik Arasında Alman Oryantalizmi [German orientalism between myth and reality]. It surveys the contents of the book briefly and strives to analyze German orientalism according to the ideas of two German intellectuals and bureaucrats, Carl Heinrich Becker (1876-1933) and Martin Hartmann (1851-1918) in the late Ottoman Empire. The book analyzes the politicization of German orientalism in the context of Ottoman politics and society according to the ideas of Becker and Hartmann.
