Süleymân bin Surad, Huzâ kabilesine mensup bir şahsiyettir. Kabilesi ile Müslümanlar arasındaki iyi ilişkiler İslam’ı seçmesinde etkili olmuştur. Hz. Peygamber (s.a.v.) ve Hz. Ebu Bekir devrinde Medine şehrinde yaşayan Süleymân bin Surad Hz. Ömer döneminde Irak bölgesinde kurulan Kûfe şehrine taşındı. O, Kûfe şehrinde hatırı sayılan bir kişi idi. Özellikle Hz. Osmân döneminde şehir halkının mevcut yönetim hakkındaki şikâyetlerini dile getiren isimlerden biri haline geldi. Hz. Ali döneminde onun yanında yer alan ve birlikte mücadele eden, Emevi muhalifi biri olarak tanındı. Muâviye bin Ebî Süfyân tarafından sıkı bir takipe alındı ancak buna rağmen Süleyman bin Surad muhalif tavrını devam ettirdi. Muâviye bin Ebî Süfyân’ın oğlu Yezîd adına biat etmesine karşı çıktı. Nitekim o, Yezîd bin Muâviye’nin halife olması üzerine Hz. Hüseyin’i Kûfe şehrine davet eden kişilerin lideri idi. Ancak o, Hz. Hüseyin ve taraftarlarını yalnız bırakanlar arasında yer aldı. Kerbela olayından sonra pişmanlık duyan Süleymân bin Surad ve aynı hissi paylaşan arkadaşları günahlarının bağışlanması adına Irak bölgesinde “Tevvabûn “olarak bilinen bir hareket başlattılar.
Bu çalışma ilgili hareketin oluşum süreci, hareketin yapısı, ortaya çıkışı ve sonunu ele almaktadır. Ayrıca karizmatik bir lider olan Süleyman bin Surad’ın “Tevvâbûn” hareketi için önemi ve oynamış olduğu rolü ortaya koymayı amaçlamaktadır.

Suleymân ibn Surad, who lived in the city of Medinah the reign of Prophet (pbuh) and Abu Bakr, he was moved to the city of Kufah, which was established in the Iraq region during the reign of Omar. He was a well-known person in the city of Kufah. Especially he became one of the names that voiced the compalints of the people the city about current administration during the Othman period. He was recognized as an opponent of the Umayyads, who sided with him and fought together during the Ali period. Muawiyah ibn Abî Sufyân was closely followed, but despite this Suleymân ibn Surad continued his oppositional stance. He objected to Muawiyah ibn Abî Sufyân’s allegiance to his son Yazîd. As a matter of fact, when Yazîd ibn Muawiyah became the caliph, He was the leader of the people who invited Husayn to the city of Kufah. However, he was among those who left Husayn and his supporters alone. After the Karbala incident, repentant Suleymân ibn Surad and his friends who shared the same feeling started a movement known as “Penitents” in the Iraq region for the forgiveness of their sins.
This study delas with the formation process of the movement, its structure, emergenced and ended.
It also aims to reveal the importance and role played by a chrarismatic leader Suleymân bin Surad and “Penitents” movement.
